Believe it or not I was actually excited to step on the scale this week. Why is that, you may ask? Well, after much trial and error along with the constant battling against my inner self I feel that I am finally on the road to making exercising a habit!
Before I get into details let’s go over my stats.

I lost 1.5 pounds this week. I know I am back to where I was prior to leaving on vacation and it seems like I am yo yoing (not a word I know) again but….I feel really confident moving forward into the future.
The week before Disney I ran on my treadmill 4 times and did some strength training (weights, lounges, pushups, and sit ups). Even though I did not formally “work out” on vacation we still did plenty of walking so it is not like we were sitting around watching Food Network all day. Then this past week I ran on my treadmill 5 times!! I said 5 times!!! I also threw in some strength training as well. And it was not torturous either – I actually looked forward to waking up and spending some quality time working up a sweat.
How did I finally crack the code? 2 things. First, I learned that I needed some time to wake up before I went to my basement to run. When I would try to exercise the moment I woke up I just did not have the energy or consciousness to get a good work out in. So now I am waking up around 5:00am, blog or read for 1/2 hour or so, then go down to my treadmill. Honestly, this has made a huge difference. Second, I put together a new playlist of upbeat songs. My old playlist had a lot of country tunes on it that are good for the cool down part of my workout but for the “getting my sweat on” part I needed something else. Nothing like a little Beyonce, Pink, JT, and Gym Class Heroes to get the heart pumping.
Finally, another cool thing that happened this week was I found myself craving tomatoes. I know this sounds weird but it really took me off guard when it happened. Usually my cravings are for things like cheez its or cafe mochas. However, these last couple weeks I have been very intentional with including more vegetables into my diet. Last week I ate a salad everyday for lunch (made easier with my salads in a jar), had veggies and hummus for snacks, and made sure I had veggies with dinner each night. Even at Disney World I consciously ordered items that included a salad or fruits and vegetables. Well it has paid off because obviously my body (and brain) have learned to crave these foods over the salty snacks and dare I say…caffeine! My advice is to be intentional, plan ahead, and be persistence. At first, it might seem hard but before you know it you will want tomatoes over chocolate
Those are my thoughts for the week. How about you? Share your weigh in and thoughts below,

I really think that being back to “pre vacation” weight in only one week is pretty darn good. I’ve started some serious strength training the last 2 months and I do feel better, but I have a HARD time getting myself into a run!
Hey Jessica!
Thanks! I feel great this week. In fact, I am excited about running tomorrow morning. Great job with the strength training – that really makes such a difference.
You rock.. I have been on a down slope lately, but hanging with Weight watchers over 6 months but I have gone up and down so much I have only lost 8lbs. I have a problem exercising (i have never really gotten into it). I love to wake up early and bought a treadmill last year but I have a 9 yr old that is a light sleeper and has good ears that he awakes at a drop of a pin. Mornings are my most productive time. Sorry to go on and on, I am going to use you as my motivator and hopefully… Just move it. thanks for your weigh in
Hey Lori! Hang in there lady! It is natural to have ups and downs – just look at my weigh in history
The key is to stick with it and keep trying even if you have a bad day.
8 pounds is great! You can do it!
Well, this week isn’t as great as last week. Dern period. I started today, and last week I thought I was going crazy. I wanted to eat everything. I actually kept it pretty much under control. I’m doing a sugar fast right now, so I didn’t cave and eat sugar, which was good. I did eat way too much salty foods though, which is bad. I gained a pound. Hoping to get it off this week. I’m still keeping pretty consistent with exercise, getting at least three days a week in. Working up to more…baby steps.

Tammy – Congratulations on the loss! Just wanted to share, I also find I need time before exercising in the morning. In order for me to exercise by 5:30, I need to be up at 5 – time to shake the groggies out, have a cup of coffee, small bowl of cereal (small!) and walk a bit before I start my run.
Also – I find the better I eat, the better I want to eat. So if I can make myself have a minimum of fruits and vegetables every day, then that sets me up for warding off bad cravings. LOve to read your blog. Keep going!

Ok, plugging along! I’m happy with this!
I have fallen in LOVE with the work out stations on Pandora. I started running a few weeks ago, after not running at all since my freshman year in HS (I’m 29) but it makes me look forward to my work outs to know that I have good music waiting for me.

Doing great! Keeping up with My Fitness Pal and on the last week of the Couch to 5K program. Last time I did this running program, I dreaded every minute of it. That was about 4 years ago. This time I’m enjoying running. Not sure what has changed but I’ll take it. Good, upbeat music is definitely key!!
