A couple weeks ago I was contacted to try out some Libby’s fruit cups. I have not had canned fruit cups since I was about 10 years old, and since I love a little nostalgia I decided to give them a try. My kids were also excited to test them out because, up until that moment, they never had fruit out of a can. Truth be told, I much prefer fresh or frozen fruit that does not have additional sugar or corn syrup added. However, everything in moderation, and these single size fruit cups were fun to eat especially after dinner for a little treat.
I have to admit, after my first bite, I was brought right back to my childhood sitting in the cafegymauditorium (some of you will know what I mean) slurping away on canned peaches. They were so good and my youngest was especially fond of them. Even my husband, who is a mountain of a man, enjoyed slurping away on the diced pears – which was quite a sight.
While I do prefer fresh fruit, I can totally see how these fruit cups could come in very handy when needing a quick snack to give the kiddos. They are super easy to throw in the lunch boxes and/or purse without worrying about them spilling all over the place. Having these Libby’s single serving fruit cups can be a real convenience; especially this time of year with school and after school activities gearing up.
Speaking of nostalgia and after school activities – do you remember Brandi Chastain? She is the incredible professional female soccer player from the 1999 World Cup games. Does this picture ring a bell?
Can you believe that was 13 years ago? I know it makes me feel old too. Good thing I think of myself like a fine wine – only gets better with age
Anyway, back to Brandi.
Brandi has won 2 World Cup Championships, 2 Olympic Gold Medals, and 1 Silver Gold Medal. Yeah she is pretty awesome!
Today, Brandi is now a busy mom juggling the challenges of working, running a household, and trying to get healthy foods in her kids. Sound familiar? This as you know is not an easy task but a challenge we all take on because we know it is important.
Brandi and Libby’s Fruit have partnered up to promote healthy snacking and an active lifestyle for kids. Brandi has put together 5 tips that she is sharing across the country at many different events. I guess this would make her the ultimate soccer mom!
I am getting a chance to meet Brandi on Saturday – I know cool, right? I can’t wait to listen to her speak! Don’t worry I will be sharing pictures of the event along with my experience. There will also be a giveaway too so make sure to check back early next week for that.
Until then here are Brandi’s kid-friendly tips for healthy living.
Hydrate to perform great. Kids should drink water before, during AND after exercise. While exercise generates heat and increases the body’s core temperature, water works to bring body temperature back to the normal 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Let your child pick out a colorful water bottle to make drinking water fun!
Always make time for healthy meals. The USDA says that half our plates should be filled with colorful fruits and veggies, but when your children are constantly running from school to practice and back, it can be tough to get them to eat that perfect meal. Add Libby’s® Single Fruit Cups, which contain one complete serving of fruit, to your children’s bags for an easy and nutritious snack.
Sleep is important! Children should receive an average of eight hours of sleep each night. Without enough sleep children get cranky and lazy, and will not perform to their full potential during school, practice or games. Help your children stick to a regular sleep schedule by making bedtime fun – read them a story or sing a song while they fall asleep.
Turn exercise into a family affair. When exercising is a solo act, it can sometimes feel like a chore. Bring the whole family on-board and make exercising fun, family time! Join your kids in a game of soccer, Double Dutch or kickball.
Lead by example. When you set a good example, your kids are more likely to follow. Although it’s easy to stop at the drive-thru on the way home from practice, make an effort to eat well and live a healthy lifestyle. Become a role model by exercising regularly and eating healthy foods, like Libby’s Canned Fruits and Vegetables, with your children. It’s easier when you make it a team effort!
Disclosure: I was provided with the Libby’s Fruit Cups for review and compensated for my time to attend the event. All opinions are my one.
