A little over a week ago I shared the Caraway Rye Bread recipe I make frequently. After I posted the link someone from the Skinny Mom’s Kitchen facebook community asked if I ever have trouble cutting my homemade bread. Yes! This was one of the main reason I went from cooking my bread in the bread machine to only using the dough cycle and finishing it in the oven. However, while this helped somewhat I still had some difficulty getting the bread sliced in nice uniform slices.
However, not but a few moments later another person chimed in with a great tip. She suggested, after the bread had completely cooled, that we try putting the bread in the freezer for about 15 minutes then slice it.
Well the next time I made a loaf of bread I tried this trick and it worked! The only difference is I kept it in for about 25-30 minutes because it did not seem frozen enough to slice at 15 minutes.
The slices still were a little thick but I think with some practice I will be able to get the bread cut just like (or close to) the store bought kind.
If you love homemade bread but get frustrated because it is difficult to slice then try this freezing tip. Do you have another tip or trick for slicing homemade bread? Would love to hear it!

After the bread cools, I use an electric knife. It works very well, and I get thin slices.

I always use a serrated knife. It helps so much. (I like this knife for tomatoes too)
